Santos Triple-Double Leads Women's Basketball Past Dean

NEW LONDON, Conn. Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) registered her first career triple-double as she finished with 34 points, 18 rebounds and a career-high 10 steals leading the Mitchell College women's basketball team to a 76-44  win over Dean in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at the Yarnell Athletic Center.

Santos was a perfect 10 for 10 from the foul line and also added four assists in the win as Mitchell improves to 4-15 overall and 2-9 in the GNAC. Dean drops to 2-18 overall and 0-10 in conference action.

Alexia Watson (Stamford, Conn.) added a season-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds while Jamya Beedoe (New London, Conn.) finished with 13 points in the win for Mitchell. Watson knocked down a season best five trey's(5 of 8) to account for her points.

The Mariners shot 36 percent (27-75) from the field and made eight of 24 from 3-point range while Dean was 17 of 53 from the floor (32.1 percent) and connected on two of 15 from behind the arc.

The game was tied 15-15 with 1:12 left in the first quarter before Mitchell scored the final five points of the quarter to start a 16-0 as the Mariners took a 31-15 lead with 5:49 left in the first half. Mitchell led 38-25 at half. Santos had 18 points and nine boards in the half.

The Mariners used an 8-2 run to end the third quarter as the lead increased to 63-39 after three and added the first seven points of the fourth for a 70-39 lead with 7:06 left.

Mitchell is back in action on Saturday in a conference game at St. Joseph's of Maine at 1:00 while Dean hosts Rivier in a GNAC game also at 1:00.
