Santos Scores 37 Points Leading Women's Basketball Past Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. Yasmine Santos led all scorers with 37 points while also grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds leading the Mitchell College women's basketball team to a thrilling 72-66 win over Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.

The Mariners improve to 5-16 overall and 3-10 in the GNAC while the Raiders finish the regular season 9-16 overall and 7-7 in conference play.

Lyliana Daly had the first double-double of her career as she had a season-high 13 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds while Alexia Watson (11) was also in double figures for Mitchell.

The Mariners shot 42.6 percent in the win (23 of 54) while making two of nine from 3-point range. Rivier was 22 of 63 (34.9 percent) and connected on seven of 27 from behind the arc.

Rivier led 17-14 after the first quarter with Santos having 10 of the Mariners 14 points in the opening ten minutes.

The Mariners scored six straight to open up a 29-24 lead with 4:36 left in the first half before Rivier answered right back with a 7-0 run taking a 31-29 lead with 2:35 left. The game was tied 33-33 at halftime.

The game was tied 46-46 with 3:19 left in the third before the Mariners scored the final six points of the quarter taking a 52-46 lead into the fourth.

Mitchell never relinquished the lead in the fourth, leading 62-60, Santos made back-to-back buckets pushing the lead to 66-60 with 2:12 left. 

The Mariners close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Norwich on Senior Day in a GNAC game at 3:00.
