Santos Earns National & Regional Weekly Recognition

NEW LONDON, Conn. – On the heels of being named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the third time this season, Mitchell College senior Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) also garnered regional and national recognition on Tuesday.

Santos, whose season concluded on Saturday, ranks third in the nation at the Division III level with 25.6 points per game, and 10th in the nation at the Division III level with 12.5 points per contest. For the second time this winter, Santos was one of five players named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. The popular web site, now in its 27th season, recognizes the top individual performances from across the country for the previous week. Santos was selected for the second time in her career and joins Amina Wiley (Class of 2023) as the second Mitchell player to ever receive the honor.

She also garnered Player of the Week honors from the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) for the second time this season. Each week during the regular season, the organization honors a player and rookie of the week from the region and selects a five-player first and second team.

Across two games last week, the senior forward averaged 38.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while leading the Mariners to a 2-0 record, including conference victories over Rivier University and Norwich University. Santos shot 50% from the floor and 75.6% from the free-throw line, netting the 1,000th point of her career in the fourth quarter of Mitchell's GNAC game against the Cadets at home.

The Mariners finished with a 6-16 record during their first season as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
