Santos Named to GNAC All-Conference First Team for Women’s Basketball

WINTHROP, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) First Team All-Conference for the sport of women's basketball, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Santos turned in one of the most prolific seasons in the Division III era of the Mitchell women's basketball program, averaging 25.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, both program records. Through the end of the regular season, the senior led the GNAC in rebounding and was second in scoring, tallying 564 points and 276 rebounds. She only upper her play in 14 conference games, averaging 28.6 points and 12.1 rebounds against GNAC opponents. Santos also added 2.6 steals and 2.2 assists per contest, while shooting 45.4% from the floor and 76% from the free-throw line.

Her 25.6 points per game ranked in the top five nationally at the Division III level, while her 12.5 rebounds per game was in the top 10. Santos, who scored in double-figures in all 22 games, recorded 20 or more points 17 times, and 30 or more points on six different occasions, highlighted by a career-high 40 points in a conference victory over Norwich University to end the season. In the game against the Cadets, Santos surpassed 1,000 career points, becoming just the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone. Santos also ranks within the top-10 nationally at the Division III level with 18 double-doubles.

The senior forward was named GNAC Player of the Week three times, was named Player of the Week by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) two times, and earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice.

Also representing the Mariners was sophomore Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, MD), who was represented Mitchell on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
