Santos Named to D3hoops.com All-Region I Third Team

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior forward Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) of the Mitchell College women's basketball team has been named to the D3hoops.com All-Region 1 Third Team, as announced by the website on Tuesday afternoon.

Santos joins Amina Wiley (class of 2023), as the only players in program history to earn All-Region recognition by the popular website, which is in its 23rd year of named All-Region Teams. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and there were 812 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
Division III basketball is organized into 10 regions. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a first and second team. This reorganization results in approximately 10 additional players being recognized when compared to full seasons in the eight-region alignment.

Yasmine Santos turned in one of the most prolific seasons of all players in New England, averaging 25.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, both Mitchell Division III era program records, tallying 564 points and 276 rebounds. Santos also added 2.6 steals and 2.2 assists per contest, while shooting 45.4% from the floor and 76% from the free-throw line.

Her 25.6 points per game ranks in the top five nationally at the Division III level, while her 12.5 rebounds per game is in the top 10. Santos, who scored in double-figures in all 22 games, recorded 20 or more points 17 times, and 30 or more points on six different occasions, highlighted by a career-high 40 points in a conference victory over Norwich University to end the season. In the game against the Cadets, Santos surpassed 1,000 career points, becoming just the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone.

Santos also ranks within the top-10 nationally at the Division III level with 18 double-doubles.

The senior forward was named GNAC Player of the Week three times, was named Player of the Week by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) two times, and earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice.

The Mariners finished their first season as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with a 6-16 overall record.
