Murtha Nets Second NECC Rookie Nod of the Season

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the second time this season Mitchell College freshman Ashley Murtha was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's lacrosse, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Murtha led the Mariners in scoring last week with nine goals over two games. She scored three of her team's four goals against Wheelock College and also finished with a season-high 10 draw controls. She then added six goals and six draw controls in non-conference action at Mass Maritime.

Murtha, who also earned rookie honors on March 24, leads the Mariners in scoring with 23 goals and two assists through six games. She currently ranks sixth in the NECC in goals and is tied for second in draw controls (35).

Mitchell (1-5 overall, 1-2 NECC) will next play at Elms College on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
