Murtha Grabs NECC Rookie Honors for Fourth Time

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the fourth time this season Mitchell College freshman Ashley Murtha was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's lacrosse, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Murtha led the Mariners in scoring last week with 17 goals and one assist for 18 points. She netted 13 goals in a win at Albertus Magnus College, which stands as the highest single game total in NCAA Division III this season. She also added four goals in a loss at Becker College to wrap up the regular season with a total of 54 goals.

Murtha, who also earned rookie honors on April 21, 7 and March 24, finished the season with a team-high 57 points. In league play she led the NECC in goals (26), points (28) and draw controls (36) during Mitchell's first-ever varsity campaign.

The Mariners finished the season with an overall record of 2-8 (1-4 NECC).
