PAWCATUCK, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-5 decision to Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon at Stonington High School.

Green Mountain (1-2 overall) picked up its first win of the season as Catie Brewster led all scorers with five goals and two assists. Martha Howe added four goals and two helpers while Rachel Aramburu pitched in with three goals and three assists to aid in the effort. Ashley Murtha paced Mitchell (0-2 overall) with three goals while Tiana Fillmore and Veyda McVey each chipped in with tallies.

Murtha netted the first goal of the game to put Mitchell in front just 1:30 into the contest. The margin lasted only 30 seconds as Rebecca Girouard quickly answered for Green Mountain, though back-to-back scores from McVey and Murtha put the Mariners back on top 3-1.

The Eagles scored the final eight goals of the first half to seize control. Brewster netted three goals during the span while Howe added a pair. Hannah Davis tacked on the final tally of the stanza on a free position shot with 37 seconds to go to give Green Mountain a 9-3 lead at intermission.

Brewster, Aramburu and Howe each tallied two goals in the second half as the Eagles outscored the Mariners 7-2 over the final 30 minutes. Murtha and Fillmore accounted for Mitchell's offensive output in the stanza, with the former notching her hat trick with 12:56 remaining.

Green Mountain held a commanding 34-10 edge in shots in the contest and forced 26 Mitchell turnovers. Eagles goalie Casie Sharp recorded three saves while Mitchell's Taylor Dansereau made 11.

Mitchell will next play at Framingham State University on Wednesday, March 25 at 4:30 p.m. Green Mountain returns to action against Johnson State College on Wednesday in a match that will be played at Castleton State College at 9:30 p.m.
