Women's LAX Clipped at MCLA


NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - After trailing visiting Mitchell College 5-4 at halftime, the MCLA women's lacrosse team used a strong second half to pull out a 14-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at Shewcraft Field. 

MCLA outscored Mitchell 10-1 in the decisive second half. The win marked the first of the season for the Trailblazers as they improved to 1-3 while the Mariners dropped to 1-2.

Mitchell led 4-1 early in the first half and eventually 5-4 at halftime before MCLA began its rally.  Taylor Brewer scored on a Rachel Green feed just 1:20 into the second half to tie the game. The Trailblazers then took the lead for good when Green converted her third marker of the game at the 27:15 mark.

Mitchell answered with an Amanda Rowan goal with 21:09 remaining, but MCLA scored the next six goals to take control. Natalie Caney and Brewer scored a pair of goals in the spurt while Green and MacKenzie Cutler also tallied.

MCLA outshot Mitchell 39-24 on the afternoon. Each team had trouble holding on to the ball as Mitchell had 22 turnovers while MCLA had 19.

Brewer paced the MCLA offense with four goals while Cutler and Caney had three apiece. Zoe Elwell earned the win in goal collecting seven saves.

Mitchell was paced by Rowan's hat trick while Kate McCormack tallied twice and Katie McBride added a goal. Samantha Ryan made 15 saves in goal in the loss.

Mitchell returns to action at Bay Path University on Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m.
