WLAX Comes Up Short at Albertus Magnus

 

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team came up short in a 16-10 final at Albertus Magnus College on Thursday night at Celentano Field.

Courtney Cacace netted six goals and added a pair of assists to lead all scorers as the Falcons snapped a five-game losing streak. Kate McCormack registered a game-high five goals to pace Mitchell. She also recorded two caused turnovers, six draw controls and four ground balls.

Albertus Magnus opened regulation scoring three unanswered goals over the first four minutes of play before a man-up goal from Mitchell brought the score to 3-1. Shortly after, Sabrina Pohlig scored back-to-back goals before Cacace scored three straight to extend the hosts' lead to seven with 11:33 left on the clock.

A minute later, Mitchell scored its final goal of the half at the 10:38 mark. However, the Mariners trailed 9-2 at the break as Korina Zelaya scored on a free position shot at the 1:54 mark.

Mitchell outscored AMC 8-7 in the second half but couldn't make up the deficit. Hannah Corrigan scored a pair of goals in the second half to complete her first career hat trick. Francesca Pinard also added a tally in the final 30 minutes. Goalie Gillian MacLellan made a season-high 23 saves on the night.

Mitchell will next host Elms College on Saturday, April 14 at noon.
