NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision to the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at Arute Field.

Kate McCormack scored a season-high four goals to lead the Mariners, who dropped to 0-2 on the season. Francesca Pinard and Lindsey Fairbank also tallied goals in the defeat.

McCormack kept the Mariners close in the opening five minutes of the contest, matching a pair of scores from the Blue Jays to keep the score even. However, Saint Joseph countered with six straight goals to seize the momentum. McCormack completed the hat trick later in the half, but Mitchell still trailed 9-4 at the break.

Jenna Banta netted four of her game-high eight goals to keep the Blue Jays comfortably in front in the second stanza. Pinard scored her first goal of the season early in the half and later assisted on Mitchell's final goal by McCormack.

Goalie Gillian MacLellan made 18 saves against 45 total shots.

Mitchell will next play at MCLA on Wednesday, March 27 at 5 p.m.
