Women's LAX Stumbles at Elms

The Elms College women's lacrosse team led from start to finish in a 20-5 victory over Mitchell College on Saturday in a New England Collegiate Conference match-up.

Francesca Pinard led the Mariners with a hat trick while Hannah Corrigan and Lindsey Fairbank added a goal apiece. Gillian MacLellan finished with eight saves in goal.

The Blazers got off to a quick start with goals from Erienne Dowe and Haley Richard in the first two minutes of the contest. After the Mariners responded with a goal by Pinard to cut the deficit in half, Elms quickly kicked into high gear and scored 10 consecutive goals en route to a 13-2 lead at the break.

Mitchell came out with energy in the second half as Fairbank and Pinard each tallied for the first two goals of the stanza. Elms answered back with six straight goals of its way to its third straight NECC win.

Vanessa Vurno and Richard combined for 10 goals and seven assists on the day. Elese Ciarcia and Dowe each contributed three goals while Emily Hubber made six saves in the win.

Mitchell (1-6 overall, 0-3 NECC) will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Monday, April 15 at 4 p.m.
