Women's LAX Drops Opener at USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team opened the 2021 season with a 22-8 loss at the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Lacrosse Field.

Daniella Holland tied a career high with five goals and added an assist to pace the Mariners. Hannah Corrigan contributed two goals and a helper while Lindsey Fairbank also tacked on a score. USJ's Symantha Fazzino led all scorers with six tallies on the day.

The Blue Jays took control early, scoring five times in the opening four minutes to set the tone. Holland scored two minutes later to put the Mariners on the scoreboard, the first of three goals in the half for the junior.

Corrigan and Fairbank also netted goals over the first 30 minutes, but the Blue Jays were never threatened. Saint Joseph closed the half with five straight goals to lead 17-5 at the break.

Holland had a hand in all three of Mitchell's second-half goals. She recorded back-to-back tallies early in the stanza and later assisted on Corrigan's second marker of the day.

Lexi Incropera faced 31 shots in her debut in goal and finished with nine saves.

Mitchell (0-1 overall) will next host Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m.
