Women's LAX Blanked at Mass Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Mass Maritime Academy shut out Mitchell College in a non-conference women's lacrosse match-up on Tuesday night, winning by a final score of 20-0.

Alyssa DiScipio scored a game-high six goals for the Buccanneers, who improved to 8-4 on the season. Her fifth goal of the game marked her 53rd of the season, a new program record for single-season goals scored.

The Buccaneers scored eight times in the opening quarter, the first from DiScipio on a pass from Allie Dickinson. The hosts scored three goals in the first five minutes, four in the middle of the period, and McLaughlin netted the final marker of the period with 2:44 left on the clock. The Bucs led 8-0 after one.

In the second, Maritime added seven goals, with the first of the quarter coming once again from DiScipio. Cassie Llewellyn tallied the final goal of the half with 13 second left on the clock to give the Bucs a 15-0 lead at the break.

The Bucs scored twice in the third quarter, the first goal coming from Dickinson on a pass from Llewellyn. The second came from the stick of Llewellyn on a pass from Paige Albertson. Maritime added three more in the fourth, the first from Dickinson, second from Calvert and third from Caleigh Tompkins on a free position shot.

MMA's Laura Kleber faced only two shots on the night and stopped both to preserve the shutout. Mitchell starter Hannah Gomes made five saves against 20 shots in the first half while Gaby Estupinan recorded three saves against eight shots in the second. 

Mitchell picked up 17 ground balls, was successful on six of 22 clears and won eight draw controls on the night. Abby Rasmussen picked up a team-high five ground balls and tied for the team high in draw controls with Jessica Krupnikoff with three. Fallon McGraw caused a team-high three turnovers in the loss.

Mitchell (1-9 overall) will next host New England College on Saturday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m.
