NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College dropped a 14-4 decision to New England College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse match-up.

Alexandria Safford paced the Pilgrims (7-7 overall) with a game-high five goals in the win. Lauren Rich and Nathalie Antigua each added a hat trick and one assist, and Haley Barnacz also chipped in a pair of scores.

Daniella Holland led Mitchell with two goals while Kathryn Barillaro and Rachel Ricciuti each added markers. Goalie Hannah Gomes also turned in a stellar effort with a career-high 21 saves against 35 shots on goal.

After Safford scored the game's first goal just 27 seconds in, it took more than 11 minutes of game time before Holland evened things up with 3:01 left in the period. A late goal by Antigua gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage heading into the second quarter.

NEC found its offensive rhythm over the next 15 minutes, scoring six straight goals to open up an 8-1 lead. Antigua accounted for two goals and an assist during the stretch while Safford added a pair of tallies.

Holland supplied her second goal in the final minute of the half to make it an 8-2 game at intermission. Gomes did her best to keep the Mariners in the game with 11 stops.

The Pilgrims outscored the Mariners 6-2 in the second half to sew up the victory. Safford ended her day with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, and Barnacz tacked on both of her goals in the final 12:23.

NEC goalie McKenzie Gallasso finished with four saves against eight shots on goal. The Pilgrims owned a 53-12 edge in total shots for the contest.

Mitchell (1-10 overall) will next host Albertus Magnus College on Thursday, April 21 at 4:00 p.m.
