Mitchell Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. Jade Epp had a game-high five goals leading Wells to a season opening 22-3 win over the host Mitchell College women's lacrosse team in head coach Kristin Ventresca's head coaching debut.

Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, Conn.) had two goals to lead the Mariners on opening day.

Wells led 4-1 after the first quarter with Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) scoring the Mariners first goal of the season.

The Express erupted for nine goals in the second quarter outscoring Mitchell 9-1 in the quarter for a 13-2 lead.Krupnikoff scored the Mariner goal in the second. 

Wells outscored Mitchell 5-1 in the third quarter with Krupnikoff scoring again for the Mariners. The Express led 18-3 after three.

Hannah Gomes had 14 saves in goal for Mitchell.

Wells outshot Mitchell 36-4 and held a 22-9 advantage in ground balls in the win.

The Express is back in action tomorrow at Albertus Magnus at noon while the Mariners are off until March 9th when they travel to Elms for a 1:00 game.
