Wildcats Move Past Women’s Lacrosse

NEW LONDON, Conn.- Junior Madeleine Gould scored four goals and added five assists for the Johnson & Wales women's lacrosse team, as the Wildcats shut out Mitchell College 19-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt on Saturday afternoon.

Maris DeBeneditto and Isabelle Babb each also recorded four goals for JWU, while DeBeneditto dished out three assists and scooper up four ground balls. DeBeneditto added four ground balls in the win.

The Wildcats opened the scoring when Mila Kuilan sent a shot past the Mitchell goalkeeper just over one minute into the action. Neely Connor then scored a minute later, and the Wildcats were off and running from there. JWU carried a seven goal lead into the second quarter and held a 10-0 advantage at halftime. The Wildcats then scored three more times in the third quarter before tallying six in the final frame to conclude the scoring.

Seniors Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, Conn.) and sophomore Lauren Corder (Selden, N.Y.) each got off one shot for the Mariners, with Krupnikoff's being on goal. Krupnikoff and Cordero both also collected two ground balls to lead Mitchell.

Sophomore Arrianna Stark (Scotia-Glenville, N.Y.) got her first start of the spring in the cage for the Mariners and logged all 60 minutes, turning away eight shots.

Junior Emma Glyman also went the distance in goal for JWU, making one save to improve her record to 5-3 on the season.

The Mariners (0-5, 0-4 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, April 6th, with a home conference game against Colby-Sawyer College. The Wildcats (5-3, 3-0 GNAC) travel to Regis College on Tuesday, April 2nd, for their next game.
