Association of Division III Independents

Names 2007 All-Independent Women's Soccer Teams

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Midfielder Christina Quitasol of California State University, East Bay, and forward Elizabeth Clem-Schneider of Salem College were named co-offensive players of the year and headline the All-Independent Women's Soccer teams named today by the Association of Division III Independents. 

Quitasol, a junior from Stockton, Cal., scored 16 goals, including four game winners, in 19 games.  Clem-Schneider, a freshman forward from Merced, Cal., scored 13 goals and added 12 assists in 13 games.  She helped the Spirits to a 15-1-2 record and scored the game-winning goal in the AD3I Atlantic Region Championship win over Green Mountain College. 

Jackie Cruz, a senior defenseman from Alameda, Cal., was named the defensive player of the year after she anchored a defense that recorded six shutouts and allowed only 18 goals all season. 

For the second consecutive year, University of California, Santa Cruz, goaltender Katie Loomis was named the goaltender of the year.  Loomis, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., notched 12 shutouts and allowed only 11 goals all season.  She finished her career with 50 wins and 44 shutouts and was one of the driving forces behind the Banana Slugs appearing in two straight NCAA tournaments. 

Freshman defender Georgia Anagnos from La Sierra University was named the rookie of the year, while head coach Damian Houlden from Mitchell College was named the Coach of The Year.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 21 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports in 2007-08.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
