Mariners Topple Nighthawks

Mitchell College defeated host Newbury College in women's soccer by the score of 6-3 today in Chestnut Hill, MA in the first meeting of the teams in the inaugural year of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). The Mariners were paced by sophomore Paige Ehnot (West Hartford, CT/Conrad) and freshman Nicole Hoxie (Winsted, CT/The Gilbert). Ehnot and Hoxie peppered Nighthawks keeper Anastasia Tridenti (Gloucester RI/Ponaganset) taking 15 of the visitors' 26 shots, scoring on 5 of them.

Newbury played well in defeat, scoring at 7:39 to take the early lead on a nifty goal by sophomore Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, MA/Brockton), assisted by freshman Rachel Wyszynski (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional). The lead was short lived, as Mitchell rallied quickly with three straight goals, beginning with the first of Ehnot three goals on the day at 11:23 to take a 3-1 lead.  Wyszynski helped the Nighthawks claw back to close the gap as the teams headed into halftime with a 3-2 score.

Unfortunately for Newbury, the Mariners rallied with two goals relatively early in the second half to give the visitors a commanding 5-2 lead, and the teams traded goals late in the game for the 6-3 final. 

Mitchell improves to 6-5, 4-0 in the NECC, while the Nighthawks drop to 0-9, 0-3 in the NECC. Mitchell hosts St. Joseph's on Monday at 4:00 pm.
