NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's soccer team earned its first shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over Southern Vermont College.

Junior Paige Ehnot stole the show on Senior Day, scoring all four goals for the Mariners (5-9-0 overall, 5-1-0 NECC). She now ranks second on the team in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points.

Mitchell took the lead in the 14th minute after Ehnot finished off a pass inside the box, scoring into the left corner of the goal. Sophomores Nikki Hoxie and Leslie Briggs were credited with assists on the play.

Ehnot's second goal came in the 24th minute off a feed from senior Anna MacKenzie, who centered a ball from the right side. Ehnot took a touch and then buried a shot into the left corner of the goal. Her third tally of the half came in the 36th minute, following up a shot by freshman Malorie Klieber and finishing off the rebound.

The Mariners led 3-0 at the halftime break and added their final goal early in the second stanza. Ehnot beat the only defender in her path and had a clear look from inside the box. She faked to the right before sliding a shot inside the left post for her fourth goal of the contest.

Mitchell played well defensively and allowed only two shots on goal. Sophomores Rachel Cunningham and Brittany O'Neil split time in goal for the Mariners and each finished with a save. Freshman Amber Mulhern recorded 14 saves in goal for the Mountaineers (0-14-0 overall, 0-7-0 NECC).

During the halftime intermission, the Mariners honored the three seniors who were playing in their final regular season home game. Jessica Brandt, Michele Anderson and MacKenzie-all four-year letterwinners-each got a starting nod on Senior Day.

Mitchell returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 28 at Elms College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Southern Vermont will next play at Rivier College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
