Women's Soccer Blanked at Coast Guard


NEW LONDON, Conn. - Three different players scored as host Coast Guard women's soccer team won its third straight game for the first time in eight years with a 3-0 win over Mitchell College in a non-conference game between the crosstown rivals.

The Bears improved to 3-1-0 while Mitchell dropped to 1-1-0 on the young season. Coast Guard scored the only goal of the first half in the 30th minute when Holly Moore scored her first career goal. The ball ricocheted off of Moore and past Mitchell goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford.

Shannah Shelton blasted a shot from outside the 18 just under the cross bar in the 50th minute with Brittany Fifer assisting to make the score 2-0. Elyse Bobczynski closed the scoring with a goal from the top of the 18 in the 62nd minute.

Mary Mills did not need to make a save to record her second consecutive shutout of the season for the Bears. Woodford had five saves in goal for the Mariners.
