Women's Soccer Blanks Bay Path

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team came away with a 2-0 victory over Bay Path College on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference showdown at Alumni Field.

Mitchell (7-4-2 overall, 5-1-2 NECC) scored a pair of goals in the 23rd minute and had chances to add more throughout the contest. The Mariners held a 39-7 edge in shots for the game and saw multiple balls hit off the post and crossbar.

Senior Shannen Pelletier put the Mariners on the scoreboard with her third tally of the season. Classmate Nikki Hoxie played a short corner kick to freshman Madeline Crow to start the play off. Crow then returned a pass to Hoxie, who centered the ball into the box where Pelletier headed it at the far post for the goal.

Mitchell's second goal came just 28 seconds later when sophomore Katelynne Mackie took a failed clear and lofted a shot over the Bay Path keeper from outside the 18-yard box. The goal was the first of Mackie's career and gave the Mariners a comfortable 2-0 cushion.

Bay Path didn't put a shot on goal in the first half but kept at it in the second stanza. Nicole Crossman finished with three shots and tested the Mitchell keeper twice in the defeat. Marina Rhodes made six stops in goal for the Wildcats (3-12 overall, 2-6-0 NECC).

Mitchell goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford finished with a pair of saves to record her sixth clean sheet of the season. Five of her shutouts have come in conference play.

Mitchell will close out the regular season at home against Becker College on Saturday, October 29 at noon.
