Mitchell Places 12 on NECC Academic Team


ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Mitchell College placed 12 student-athletes on the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference Team for the 2011 fall semester, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Representing the Mariners were senior Jennie Austin (women's volleyball), sophomore Drew Castagna (men's cross country), senior Joshua Charles (men's cross country), senior Dustin Huguenin (men's soccer), senior Anna Irons (women's soccer), junior Malorie Klieber (women's soccer), senior Tad Maynard (men's golf), sophomore Nicole Terni (women's volleyball), senior Shannen Pelletier (women's soccer), junior Rebecca Tabak (women's soccer), junior Arianna Thomas (women's volleyball) and sophomore Taylor Zaldivar (men's golf).

To be eligible, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a sophomore or higher in class standing. Student-athletes who competed in men's and women's cross country, men's golf, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball were eligible for fall NECC academic honors.

A total of 172 student-athletes were named to the NECC Academic All-Conference Team. NECC member institutions include Bay Path College, Becker College, Daniel Webster College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College, Newbury College, Regis College, Southern Vermont College and Wheelock College. Babson College and Springfield College are also associate members in the sport of men's golf.
