Women's Soccer Shut Out at SVC

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women's soccer team improved to 2-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with a 2-0 win at home on Wednesday over Mitchell College.

Kaitlyn Forant notched her 14th goal of the season to put SVC ahead, and Erin Student added the insurance midway through the second half. The Mountaineers improved to 8-3-1 overall on the season, while Mitchell dropped to 2-6 overall, 2-2 in the NECC.

The Mountaineers applied a majority of the pressure in the first half, creating multiple chances at goal. Finally, Forant was able to get past the defense and slot a shot into the back of the net, beating junior goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford just before the end of the half.

SVC continued to work the ball through the Mitchell midfield, creating opportunities for Forant, Shawnee Webster and the rest of the Mountaineer offense. Student then collected the ball and scored for her third tally of the season in the 69th minute.

Goalkeeper Liz Simonowicz saved two shots en route to her first collegiate shutout victory, and Woodford ended the day with eight saves.

Mitchell will next host Wheelock College on Saturday, October 13 at 2:30 p.m.
