Women's Soccer Falls to Elms in OT

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Marissa Yowell scored 3:13 into overtime to give the Elms College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Blazers (5-8-1 overall, 4-0-1 NECC) remained unbeaten in conference play with the victory. Yowell's goal was her 10th of the year and third game-winning tally of the season.

After neither side produced a score in regulation, the teams set out looking for the golden goal in extra time. Yowell, who started the game in goal for Elms before switching to forward in the second half, finally broke through in the 94th minute. She fought off a group of Mitchell defenders to win a ball in the box and deposited a shot into the back of the net.

Yowell and Alexa Rinaudo made a combined three saves in the shutout for Elms. Mitchell goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford finished with four stops.

Mitchell (3-7-3 overall, 3-3-0 NECC) will next play at Becker College on Saturday, October 20 at 4 p.m.
