Lesley Sinks Women's Soccer in Second Half

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Lesley University scored three goals in the second half to come away with a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Lynx (13-2-2 overall, 8-0-0 NECC) won for the seventh time in their last eight games. Lesley dominated play throughout and held a 33-0 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Hannah Landerholm produced the game-winning goal in the 57th minute as Lesley took another step closer to its fourth-straight unbeaten conference record.

Despite the disparity in shots, Mitchell kept the match scoreless in the opening half. The Mariners defended well and kept the Lynx from producing a quality opportunity, and junior goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford turned away five shots before the intermission.

The second half was a different story as Lesley ratcheted up the pressure in its offensive end. The Lynx finally broke through at 56:35 when Landerholm headed a ball off the right post and then drilled the rebound home for her first marker of the season.

Lesley's second goal came just over eight minutes later when Sarah Apgar juked a defender on the right side en route to beating the keeper for her seventh goal of the season. Kelsey Fitzgerald added the final tally in the 85th minute off a feed from Samantha Rapant for her third goal of the year.

Emileigh Lloyd and Jackie Beard combined for the shutout in goal for the Lynx. Woodford finished with 13 saves for the Mariners.

Mitchell (3-9-0 overall, 3-5-0 NECC) will wrap up regular season play at Bay Path College on Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m.
