Women's Soccer Holds On at Bay Path

LONGMEADOW, Mass. - Mitchell College earned a spot in the upcoming NECC Championship with a 2-1 victory at Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon on the final day of New England Collegiate Conference regular season play.

Mitchell struck first in the 10th minute of play when sophomore Alexandra Charles found the back of the net on a cross up the middle by senior Malorie Klieber. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season.

The Mariners would score again seven minutes later with 16:37 to play in the first half. Freshman Samantha Cilenti sent a free kick into the box, and Charles re-directed it with her head for her second marker of the game.

Bay Path cut the deficit to one after a handball in the net for the Mariners yielded a penalty kick. The Wildcats broke up the shutout when Keelin Dougherty converted the kick to make it 2-1.

Bay Path (3-12-2 overall, 2-7-0 NECC) produced 16 shots in the second half, including five on goal, but could not net the equalizer. Rhodes suffered the loss in goal while Mitchell junior Kaylee Woodford picked up the win with four saves.

Mitchell (4-9-0 overall, 4-5-0 NECC) will be the sixth seed and will play a road game on Tuesday, October 30 in the first round of the NECC Championship. A complete bracket and schedule will be released by the conference on Sunday.
