WSoccer Edged in OT at Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College's Michelle Rossignol converted a penalty kick in the 100th minute of action to break a scoreless tie and lift the Blazers to a 1-0 win over Mitchell College in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improved to 4-7-1 overall, 3-1-0 in NECC play, while Mitchell moved to 1-8-0 on the season, 1-3-0 in conference action.

The Blazers placed 23 shots on target and Mitchell goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford stopped 21 of them and had some help from her defensive line after Elms' Victoria Cebula played the ball toward goal following a corner kick from sophomore forward Melissa Welch at the 87:56 mark.

Woodford made 11 of her 21 saves in the second half and turned aside three more shots in the overtime period before Rossignol delivered the game winner.

Alexandra Mahar had two of Mitchell's three shots in the contest including one in the overtime frame that Elms goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo corralled as she finished with three saves in the contest.

Welch and Cebula combined for nine shots on goal, while Rossignol, Carmen Marino and Kylen O'Hearn had three shots on target apiece.

Mitchell returns to action at home against Southern Vermont College on Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m.
