Lesley Cruises to 4-0 Win Over WSoccer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Lesley University on Wednesday night at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols.

Lesley received first half goals from Hannah Landerholm and Marysol Flores to remain undefeated in New England Collegiate Conference play. The Lynx improved to 13-1-1 overall on the year and 6-0-0 in conference action while the Mariners fell to 1-10-0 overall and 1-5-0 in NECC play. The win also extended Lesley's NECC regular season winning streak to 40 games.

Landerholm got the Lynx on the board in the 20th minute when she one-timed a cross from classmate Alexis Giusti, who sent a ball into the box from the right side. Landerholm connected with her right foot with a shot into the lower left corner to give Lesley a 1-0 lead. The goal was Landerholm's fifth of the season while Giusti was credited with her fourth helper of the season.

Flores extended the Lesley lead with just 53 seconds to play in the opening half when Lindsey Bos delivered a beautiful feed to the cutting midfielder before she unleashed a blast from just inside the box, beating Mitchell keeper Kaylee Woodford.

The Lynx, who outshot the Mariners 13-0 in the first half, kept up the pressure after the break. Lesley added its third goal of the game when Cassidy Hopkins netted her second mark of the season, edging a Mitchell defender and putting a shot inside the near post to put the home team up 3-0.

Lesley added its final tally when Jennifer Collins notched the first score of her collegiate career, capitalizing on a penalty kick after Mitchell was called for a foul in the box.

The Lynx outshot the Mariners 25-1 on the night and held a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.

Woodford made 10 saves for Mitchell on the night, including several acrobatic stops, while Lesley keeper Jackie Berard did not make a save in the shutout, improving her record to 4-0-1 on the year.

Mitchell will next play host to Newbury College on Saturday, October 19 at noon.
