Women's Soccer Falls 6-0 at Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Johnson State College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 victory over visiting Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson State (4-2 overall) used five goals in the opening stanza and one in the second to silence the Mariners (0-3 overall). The Badgers outshot the visitors 21-11 and saw Kylie Aither and Casey Hutchinson each score twice on the day while Alexa Jakiela and Chelsea Austin also added tallies.

After just 12 scoreless minutes, Aither opened the scoring off a feed from Jakiela to put the Badgers on the board. Just two minutes later, the duo created almost the exact same opportunity, with a firm through ball from Jakiela to set up Aither for a clean look at the goal. Five minutes later, Jakiela tallied her own goal for the third score in eight minutes.

Hutchinson closed out the half by scoring twice in an eight-minute span. She notched the first goal off of a corner from Briana Stadler and the second off a through ball down the center from Aither. The Badgers headed into the break with a comfortable 5-0 advantage.

The Mariners held Johnson scoreless in the second half until the 89th minute when Austin took a left-to-right cross from Jakiela to end the game with a bang. Badgers goalie Amber McCullock turned away eight shots to pick up her fourth win of the season.

Mitchell keeper Katie McBride made eight saves in the loss.

Mitchell will close out its weekend tour of Vermont with a match at Lyndson State College on Sunday at noon.
