Women's Soccer Salvages Draw at Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. - Becker College and Mitchell College played to a 2-2 tie in New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer action Saturday morning at Alumni Field.

Neither team scored in the first half, although the Hawks (5-4-1 overall, 1-0-1 NECC) had a good chance as time was winding down. Alison Mosdale blasted a shot from point-blank range, but Mitchell goalie Katie McBride made a tremendous save to preserve the tie.

Mitchell broke through in the 69th minute when McBride, who played the field in the second half, headed a pass to Madeline Crow. She then one-timed a shot into the back of the Becker net for her second tally of the season.

The Hawks had a quality chance to tie the game in 72nd minute when Lauren Zaleski ripped a shot that hit the left post. Becker finally equalized with 10:35 remaining in regulation when Katherine Cormier gathered a loose ball in front of the Mitchell net and shot it past the dive of Shirley Palmer. Becker then took the lead with 6:12 remaining in regulation when Alyssa Bond launched a shot into the Mitchell net from 35 yards out for her second goal of the season.

A goal by Elisa Johnson in the final minute of regulation tied the game once again. Johnson broke free down the far sideline and beat Rebecca Carkhuff with 44 ticks left on the clock. The goal was Johnson's team-leading fifth of the season.

McBride went back into goal for both overtime periods and stopped a pair of shots to give her a total of six saves in the contest. Palmer finished with five saves.

Mitchell (1-6-1 overall, 1-0-1 NECC) will next play at Rhode Island College on Wednesday, October 8 at 4 p.m.
