Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Regis

NEW LONDON, Conn. – A second-half goal gave Regis College a 1-0 victory over Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer showdown on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Joana Rosa scored the game's lone goal in the 71st minute to put Regis (5-4-2 overall, 2-1-0 NECC) on the scoreboard. Stifled for most of the game, Mitchell (1-8-1 overall, 1-1-1 NECC) came across some quality chances late but couldn't capitalize.

The Pride outshot the Mariners 12-2 in a scoreless first half, and the trend continued into the second stanza. Regis kept the pressure in Mitchell's defensive end and produced several scoring chances. Rosa finally broke through when she finished off a cross from the left side by Adena Joseph for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Mariners had two chances at the equalizer in the final five minutes. First, they sprung Alexandra Mahar up the middle of the field for a good look at goal, but her shot went wide. In the closing seconds, Alexandra Charles also got off a shot that sailed over the crossbar.

Despite a 27-6 edge in shots in favor of the Pride, Mitchell goalkeeper Katie McBride kept her side in the game with 11 saves. Regis keeper Rachel Gagnon earned her third shutout of the season and did not face a shot on goal.

Mitchell will next host Elms College on Monday, October 13 at 1 p.m. Regis returns to action at home against Daniel Webster College on Monday at noon.
