Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Elms

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Elms College scored once in the first half and added a pair of insurance goals in the second to secure a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer play on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Kylen O'Hearn got the Blazers (4-8-0 overall, 3-1-0 NECC) off to a quick start, scoring just 1:35 into the contest. Michelle Rossignol and Gina DiGiovanni added markers in the second half while goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo recorded three saves to notch her third shutout of the season.

Mitchell goalkeeper Katie McBride faced 31 shots and finished with 11 saves.

In the opening minutes of the game, the Blazers locked the ball in Mitchell's end and a defensive breakdown yielded the first goal. Rachel Mick found O'Hearn on the right side of the box with a slow-rolling pass, and O'Hearn buried her shot into the back of the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Elms led 1-0 at intermission but scored again in the 65th minute when Rachel Connell fed Rossignol for a shot into the top-left corner of the goal. Nearly 10 minutes later, Melissa Welch served up a corner kick that was volleyed out of mid-air by DiGiovanni from 18 yards out for quality goal.
