Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Lesley

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Lesley University picked up a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer showdown at Alumni Field.

The Lynx (13-3-0 overall, 6-0-0 NECC) scored twice in the first half and added an insurance goal early in the second to extend their winning streak to six games. Emily Johnston, Melinda Robinson and Julie Essick all netted goals for Lesley on the day, and goalkeepers Lilly Donovan and Jackie Berard combined for the shutout.

Johnston scored just 3:18 into the contest on a ball she played into the box from just over midfield. The ball took a big bounce over the Mitchell keeper and trickled into the goal for Johnston's first marker of the season.

Robinson added a quality goal in the 35th minute on a header off a corner kick. Lindsey Bos served up a perfect ball to the near post that Robinson finished for her third tally of the season.

Lesley led 2-0 at halftime and added its final goal just 4:51 into the second stanza. Alexis Giusti played a short corner out to Essick at the top left-corner of the box, and she delivered a well-placed ball to the top-right corner of the goal for her fifth score of the season.

The Lynx held a commanding 49-1 advantage in shots and a 25-0 edge in shots on goal. Mitchell goalkeeper Katie McBride was busy all afternoon and finished with a season-high 21 saves.

Mitchell (1-11-1 overall, 1-4-1 NECC) will next play at Newbury College on Saturday, October 25 at 5 p.m. Lesley returns to action at home against Wheelock College on Saturday at 8 p.m.
