NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 3-0 loss to New England College on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Pilgrims (1-0-0 overall) scored all three goals in the second half and controlled possession throughout. Katie Hatch netted the game-winning goal in the 55th minute while Ali Leizure and Jaycie Triandafilou later added tallies just under a minute apart.

Mitchell goalkeeper Katie McBride finished with 12 saves against 28 shots, including six in the first half that kept the game scoreless. The Pilgrims finally broke through early in the second half when Hatch played a free kick quickly and surprised the defense. Leizure added to the margin in the 63rd minute after streaking up the right sideline and burying a shot into the upper right corner. Triandafilou added her tally in the 64th minute, dribbling through defenders on the left side of the box before depositing a shot to the lower left side of the goal.

Mackenzie Meegan didn't face a shot on goal en route to the shutout.
