Women's Soccer Falls to Albertus Magnus

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Five players found the back of the net for Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday afternoon in a 5-0 victory at Mitchell College in non-conference women's soccer action at Alumni Field.

The Falcons (2-3-2 overall) outshot the Mariners (1-2-2 overall) by a 28-1 margin and put 20 shots on goal. Amanda Montano scored the game-winning goal on an unassisted effort in the opening half. Mitchell goalkeeper Katie McBride finished with 15 saves in the contest to help limit the damage.

Albertus Magnus missed out on an early goal after Kerrigan Loughman drilled a shot off the crossbar that deflected down and was cleared away. Just four minutes later, however, Montano beat her defender up the right sideline and cut in toward the goal. Her shot to the upper-right corner put the Falcons on top 1-0 just 17:38 into the contest, and the marker was her second of the season.

The Falcons struck again less than two minutes later, as Loughman got things started with a cross into the box from the right flank that found the foot of Danielle Polvan. Polvan finished off the cross for her first tally of the season, and Albertus Magnus took the 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission.

Victoria Lavery, Alexya Alves and Kaitlyn Fedumenti all added scores in the second half as the Falcons pulled away. Lavery scored from 40 yard out in the 55th minute as she caught the keeper out of position and drove a shot under the crossbar. Alves' goal came in the 62nd minute on a finish off a pass from Acacia Nelson, and Fedumenti completed the scoring in the 70th minute off a feed from Loughman.

AMC goalkeeper Lexie Fenn did not face a shot and picked up her first career win and shutout.

Mitchell opens conference play at home against Becker College on Saturday, September 26 at noon. Albertus Magnus returns to action at Trinity College on Thursday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m.
