Women's Soccer Duo Earns NECC Honors


ATTLEBORO, Mass. –Two members of the Mitchell College women's soccer team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday afternoon.

Senior Alexandra Mahar was selected to the all-conference third team while classmate Samantha Cilenti was named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team. All awards were determined by a vote of the league's head coaches.

Mahar earned all-conference distinction for the first time in her career. She started all 17 games this season and recorded career highs of nine goals and six assists to lead the Mariners. Her team-high 24 points ranked seventh in the NECC, and in four seasons she played in 61 games and finished with 17 goals and 10 assists for 44 career points. 

Cilenti, a four-year starter on defense and midfield, started all 17 games and recorded one goal this season. Over four years she appeared in 61 contests and finished her career with four goals and five assists for 13 points.

Mitchell wrapped the season with an overall record of 4-9-4 under first-year head coach Chelsea Shaughnessy. The Mariners went 3-4-2 in conference play and qualified for the NECC Championship for the first time since 2012, falling in the first round by a 4-1 final to Becker College.
