Women's Soccer Comes Up Short vs. Mount Ida

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Mount Ida College on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Mustangs (1-3-0 overall) scored goals in each half to nab their first win of the season. Jamie Overoye netted the game winner in the opening stanza while Haley Falzone added insurance in the second. Goalkeeper Kelsey Parkin made the margin stand by recording four saves in the shutout.

Mount Ida put up the first goal in the 15th minute thanks to some nifty passing in the midfield. AnnaMarie Seiler got things started by slotting the ball through the middle of the field to Mikayla Lovering, who dumped off a pass to Overoye on the left side of the box. Overoye connected on a shot that sailed over the outstretched arms of Mitchell goalkeeper Drew Johndrow and dipped under the crossbar for her first collegiate goal.

With the 1-0 lead in hand at the break, the Mustangs added to the margin in the 56th minute when Falzone picked up her first collegiate goal. She collected a ball in the left side of the box and unleashed a shot into the side netting inside the far post.

Mitchell produced a pair of quality chances later in the half, both of which came within a two-minute span. Jacquelyn White got a good look from the right side but saw her shot sail across the goalmouth. Moments later she chased down a ball in the box, but Parkin came out to challenge and deflected the shot at point-blank range.

Mount Ida held a 24-5 edge in shots in the contest. Johndrow finished with seven saves in the first half while Jordan Lohneiss recorded four over the final 45 minutes.

Mitchell (0-2-0 overall) will next play at Lyndon State College on Saturday, September 10 at noon. Mount Ida returns to action at home against Saint Joseph University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
