Women's Soccer Falls to Eastern Nazarene


NEW LONDON, Conn. – A pair of hat tricks fueled the Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team to a 7-1 victory over Mitchell College on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Katherine Lawrence and Kelly Couite each produced three goals on the day for the Lions, who picked up their first win of the season. Libby Nyquist added a goal and an assist while Kiara Ketchuck and Alexis Schmidt each finished with a pair of assists.  

Lawrence scored twice in the first half as Eastern Nazarene raced out to a 3-0 lead by intermission. Couite—who had a goal in the opening half—completed the hat trick early in the second, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the stanza to increase the margin to 5-0. 

Mitchell got on the scoreboard in the 59th minute as rookie Breanna Gagnon netted her first collegiate goal. She was on the receiving end of a pass from Jacquelyn White and finished it off for the Mariners' first goal of the season.

Lawrence completed her hat trick in the 84th minute off a feed from Nyquist, who later capped the scoring in the 88th off an assist from Schmidt. The Lions finished with a 39-4 edge in shots in the contest and put 22 on frame.

Mitchell goalkeeper Lordan Lohneiss made a career-high 14 saves while Anastasia Swift recorded two for Eastern Nazarene.

Mitchell (0-4-0 overall) will open conference play at home against Daniel Webster College on Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (1-4-0 overall) will next play at Western New England University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
