Women's Soccer Falls to Elms on Senior Day


NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team dropped a 7-0 decision to Elms College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at Alumni Field.

Brie Voight finished with two goals and an assist while Angelina Estrada added a pair of scores to propel the Blazers (10-2-1 overall) to a 4-0-0 mark in league play. Haley Richard also tacked on a goal and an assist while Alizaya Clark and Antriese Suarez each contributed tallies. 

Estrada opened the scoring just 1:08 into the contest with an unassisted effort. Later in the stanza, Elms added a pair of goals that came 52 seconds apart. Richard netted the first off a cross by Jackie Soucia while Clark tacked on the second on a feed by Richard.

The Blazers led 3-0 at the break but doubled the margin in the opening five minutes of the second half. Voight factored into all three goals, scoring the first in the 46th minute on a cross by Soucia and the third in the 50th. Sandwiched between the two goals was a marker by Estrada, who finished off a cross from Voight with a chip over the keeper.

Suarez capped the scoring in the 87th minute with a goal off a rebound. The goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Elms goalkeeper Rebecca Molin made only one save to record her ninth shutout of the season. Mitchell keeper Jordan Lohneiss turned away 17 shots. 

Prior to the game, the Mariners honored seniors Taylor Kadlec, Lindsay Noble and Sophie Spiller in a special ceremony. All three have been starters since their freshman seasons.

Mitchell (1-9-0 overall, 1-3-0 NECC) will next play at Southern Vermont College on Wednesday, October 12 at 3 p.m. Elms returns to action at Newbury College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
