Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener at Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – The Mitchell College women's soccer team opened the season with a 10-0 loss to the University of Southern Maine on Friday afternoon in the first game of the 2018 Husky Challenge at Hannaford Field.

Seven Huskies found the back of the net on the day, led by a hat trick from Alexandria Allain. Southern Maine held a commanding 39-0 edge in shots and placed 29 on goal, keeping Mitchell goalkeeper Drew Johndrow busy throughout the contest. Johndrow finished with a career-high 17 stops in her first appearance in goal since 2015.

Southern Maine scored three goals in the opening 11:08 of the game and never looked back. The Huskies led 6-0 at halftime, and Allain added a pair of markers in the second stanza to record the hat trick in her collegiate debut.

Mitchell (0-1-0 overall) returns to action against Thomas (ME) College on Saturday, September 1 on the second day of play at the Husky Challenge. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
