Women's Soccer Falls to NEC on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team closed out the 2018 season with a 6-0 loss to New England College on Wednesday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at Alumni Field.

NEC scored all six goals in the first half and held a 30-3 edge in total shots and a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Michaela Pomeroy netted a pair of goals and Emily LePage scored a goal and added two assists to lead the attack.

NEC finishes the regular season with a record of 11-7-2 overall and 7-1-1 in league play. The Pilgrims have qualified for the upcoming NECC Championship, which will begin with first-round play on Saturday, October 27. A complete bracket with seeding, match-ups and game times will be released by the conference.

LePage supplied the first goal just 8:57 into the contest off a feed from Leeann Demirjian. The Pilgrims soon began to pile up the goals, scoring the next five over a nine-minute span. Pomeroy netted goals in the 18th and 27th minutes to bookend tallies from Meghan Oliver and Demirjian in the 21st and 25th minutes, respectively. Tara Bainbridge supplied the final marker in the 27th minute to put NEC up by six.

NEC's Kayla Pugliese and Emily Sashko combined for the shutout in goal. Mitchell keeper Drew Johndrow made five saves in the first half before turning things over to Lindsey Robinson, who stopped four shots and didn't allow a goal in her first action between the pipes.

Mitchell ends the season with an overall record of 1-14-0 (0-9-0 NECC).

Prior to the game, the Mariners honored their two seniors in a special ceremony. Johndrow and Jacquelyn White, both four-year starters, were recognized for their contributions to the program before competing in the final game of their collegiate careers.
