Kelly Nabs NECC Rookie of the Week Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman J'Naya Kelly was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's soccer, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.

Kelly scored a pair of goals last week—both game winners—as the Mariners went 2-0 in non-conference action. She tallied her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 victory over Fisher College, scoring just 1:24 into the contest. She then recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, netting the winner in overtime.

Kelly is the first Mitchell player to earn rookie of the week honors since 2014. She has started all four games this season and currently leads the team in scoring with two goals and one assist for five points.

Mitchell (2-2-0 overall) will next play at Mass Maritime Academy on Wednesday, September 18 at 7 p.m.
