Hat Trick Downs Women's Soccer at Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Mitchell College suffered a 3-0 setback at Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at the MHC Soccer Field.

The Lyons (2-5-1 overall) were fueled by a career-best three goals from Minerva Veeser-Bobea in the contest. It marked the first time since 2016 that a Mount Holyoke player recorded a hat trick.

Mount Holyoke goalkeeper Brianna Thompson picked up the shutout victory with three saves. Mitchell's Yordi Slover notched 11 stops in the loss.

Just over 15 minutes into the match, the Lyons got on the board as Veeser-Bobea caused a turnover at midfield and dished a pass to Hannah Finn-Erb. After collecting the pass, Finn-Erb sent Veeser-Bobea in behind the Mitchell back line for the only tally of the first half with 29:45 to play in the stanza.

Midway through the second half, Paige Osborne beat her defender down the right flank before sending a cross to the middle of the field that went right to the foot of Finn-Erb. Much like she did in the first half, Finn-Erb slid a pass to Veeser-Bobea for a shot into the top-left corner for the 2-0 lead. With less than six minutes to play, Veeser-Bobea took a long through ball from Cora Melcher and fired a shot into the top-left corner of the goal to complete the hat trick.

Mitchell (2-5-0 overall) will next host York College on Saturday, September 28 at 3 p.m.
