Women's Soccer Blanked by Becker

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to Becker College on Tuesday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at Alumni Field.

Kyra Teixeira supplied a pair of goals and an assist as Becker improved to 10-6-2 overall and 4-2-0 in league play. Kristen Beidleman, Chelsea Sedar and Shannon Kelley also netted goals for the Hawks, and goalkeepers Olivia Sherwood and Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins combined for the clean sheet.

Teixeira's goals both came in the first half. She opened the scoring in the 18th minute and added her second in the 42nd, bringing her team-leading total to 17 on the year. Sandwiched in between was a goal from Beidleman in the 28th minute, and the result was a 3-0 Becker lead at intermission.

The Hawks scored less than a minute apart in the second half to bump the lead to five. After Kelley assisted on Sedar's goal in the 62nd minute, she tacked on her own in the 63rd off a feed from Teixeira.

Becker held a 22-11 edge in total shots. Sherwood made a pair of saves in the first half while Cobb-Wilkins had one in the second. Mitchell keeper Yordi Slover finished with four stops in 90 minutes.

Mitchell will next host Lesley University on Saturday, October 26 at 2 p.m. Becker returns to action at home against Elms College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
