Soccer Seniors Sent Off in Style

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's soccer team sent its seniors off in style on Monday, posting a 14-5 exhibition victory over Fisher College.

The two teams squared off in a modified 6v6 contest that featured three 25-minute periods, which resulted in a higher than usual goal total. Lindsey Fairbank paced the Mariners with six goals and two assists in the contest, while newcomer Elon Johnson tacked on four goals and a helper. Hannah Corrigan also found the back of the net for a score, as did Rachel Ricciuti, Mariah Travisano and Madison Nicynski.

Charlie Arellano led Fisher with four goals while Kassie Lima added a goal and an assist.

After a slow start for both sides, Fairbank finally broke through with the game's first goal in the 14th minute. That goal opened the floodgates as the Mariners quickly added another pair of scores 20 seconds apart. Fairbank assisted on Ricciuti's goal before burying another one of her own to make it 3-0.

Fairbank completed the hat trick in the 28th minute to put Mitchell on top 4-1. Johnson later added her first of the contest with a left-footed strike for the final tally of the period.

The Mariners outscored the Falcons 7-2 in the seond stanza. Fairbank picked up a pair of goals and an assist in the period, which also saw two goals from Johnson and single tallies by Corrigan, Nicynski and Travisano.

Fairbank netted her final goal of the day in the third, finishing off an assist from Isabel Foley to pad her stat line.

Prior to the game, both Fairbank and Corrigan--along with team manager Emma Quinn--were honored in a special Senior Day Ceremony. The two player last donned a Mitchell women's soccer uniform in October of 2019, a span of 544 days.
