Women's Soccer Cruises Past Old Westbury

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College women's soccer team made it two straight wins with a 10-2 victory over SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon at Farmingdale State University.

Seven Mariners recorded a goal in the contest, with Ileana Perez leading the way with her first career hat trick to go along with a pair of assists. Elon Johnson added two goals and a helper while Gemma Landry chipped in a goal and two assists. 

Mitchell scored five goals in the opening half and led 5-0 at the break. Francesca Zamarripa kicked things off with her first collegiate goal in the 14th minute, and less than three minutes later Johnson potted her first to make it 2-0. Perez then netted her first marker in the 19th minute before assisting on a score by Madison Nicynski in the 23rd. Tessa Seesock closed out the first-half scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute.

Perez and Johnson scored just over two minutes apart early in the second stanza to extend the lead to 7-0. After back-to-back scores by SUNY Old Westbury cut the margin back to five with 20 minutes remaining, the Mariners tacked on three insurance goals to seal the victory. Landry and Rachel Ricciuti each recorded their first career goals while Perez completed the hat trick for the 10-2 final.

Jessica Krupnikoff made her first start in goal and turned in six saves in a clean 45 minutes of action. Hannah Penn made her debut in goal for the second half and made two saves.

Mitchell (2-2 overall) will next host Dean College on Tuesday, September 14 at 4 p.m.
