LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference showdown at Varsity Athletics Field.

Mariah Travisano and Rachel Ricciuti supplied the offensive firepower while Angelina Munoz posted her first career shutout in goal. The Mariners improved to 4-6-1 overall and have matched their win total from the 2019 season.

Travisano put Mitchell on the scoreboard in the 24th minute with her first tally of the season. After a shot by Ileana Perez was stopped by Lyndon keeper Karly Cordwell, Travisano drilled the rebound home from just outside the 18-yard box.

Mitchell took the 1-0 advantage into the halftime intermission and protected the lead throughout the second half. The insurance marker didn't come until the 84th minute, on a play that began with a Lyndon defender clearing the ball out of the box. Jessica Krupnikoff collected the ball in the midfield and played it right back in down the right side of the box, setting up a race to the ball between Cordwell and Francesca Zamarripa. The latter got to the ball first and centered a pass to Ricciuti for an easy finish into an open net. The goal was her second of the season.

Mitchell held a 16-11 edge in total shots. Munoz finished with three saves while Cordwell made nine stops.

Mitchell will next host Elms College on Monday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m.
