Women's Soccer Eliminated at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – Third-seeded Mitchell College was eliminated by second-seeded New England College, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2021 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Don Melander Field.

The Pilgrims scored once in the opening half and added a pair of insurance goals in the second, improving to 7-9-1 on the season. NEC held a commanding 32-2 edge in total shots and put 19 attempts on goal.

Mitchell goalkeepers Angelina Munoz and Gemma Landry combined to make 16 saves. Munoz played the first half and made six stops while Landry chipped in 10 over the final 45 minutes.

NEC got on the scoreboard in the 36th minute on a goal by Madeline Parisi, her first of the season. The Pilgrims added to the margin in the 50th minute on a finish by Lauren Hobson off a corner kick. The final tally came via a penalty shot by Leeann Demirjian in the 74th minute.

Mitchell, which made its first postseason appearance since 2016, ends the season with a 5-9-2 overall record. The Mariners also recorded their most wins in a season since the 2011 campaign.
