Women's Soccer Silenced by Albertus Magnus in Season Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's soccer team was shut-out 2-0 on Thursday night in their season opening match against Albertus Magnus in New Haven.

Coming off a season in which the Mariners made their first postseason appearance since 2016, and also saw head coach Marc Davis claim New England Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year honors, the team entered the new season surrounded by a lot of positivity. Mitchell battled Thursday on the road, allowing just one goal in the first half when Erina Ismaili scored off an assist by Amanda McGeehan 7:24 into the game.

Keegan Riccio set up Bridget Rosikiewicz for the only other goal of the game midway through the second half to cap the offensive attack from both squads.

Gemma Landry, who made 147 saves in net last season for Mitchell, made 17 saves against the Falcons. The Mariners managed just one shot on goal, delivered by Taylor Bialowas at the 21:40 mark, and it was saved by Albertus keeper Amy Stevens.

Mitchell begins their 2022 campaign with three straight road contests. The Mariners will hit the road again on Saturday, September 3, traveling to Paxton, Massachusetts, to face Anna Maria College.
